As a family and newborn photographer in Huntsville, Alabama, I love getting to document sweet moments. Anyone that has had a photography session with a child knows that children don’t always want to sit still and smile at a camera for a nice picture. There are many tips and tricks out there to get a good photo with your children and I want to share one tried and true method.
Huntsville Photographer Session Tip #2
The first tip that I gave a few months back (see post https://www.instagram.com/p/CifUISwjBEz/), was to always, always make sure you give your kiddos a snack (a non-messy snack, of course) right before the session. And bring more to the session! Children need to have content bellies for their photography session. This is even more important if the session occurs around dinner time (which is often the case in the spring and fall for outdoor sessions when the sun sets around 5:30 or 6:00).
Now, my second most important tip for sessions with children, is that I want you as the parent, to be prepared to be playful with your children during the session. Sometimes, to ask a child to smile at the camera is successful for a good photo but other times it’s not. Smiles (real smiles) will oftentimes come naturally as the session progresses and fun games have been played. I will have games to play in mind that accommodate the space and poses planned for your family’s session. So for the session- relax, keep smiling, and plan to have fun with your kids!
